This book. THIS BOOK. Fantasy was always something that I clung to as a child, delving into mystical worlds full of intrigue and delight and this book... It brought about the joy from my inner child all over again.
For one, the world building is IMMACULATE. I would catch myself referring to the map so much (because I wanted to experience the new locations with the characters as well as paint a picture in my mind ), I kept a tab open at all times so that I could refer back to it.
The lore is so deeply investing and with each turn of the page, you learn more about the history that shapes- and sometimes haunts- each of the characters as well.
The representation is astoundingly wonderful as well. Not just as carbon copy characters where one mentions their backgrounds as a "pat on the back, there's diversity" no, it shapes and molds their everyday lives.
Ead has my entire heart. Without getting into too many details, that character... She is so amazing. Every one of the POV characters add something to the narrative, even if it feels like their stories seem separate, it comes together like a beautifully fitted puzzle.
Even the "background" characters feel fleshed out in a way that made this world come alive in my mind and, I am completely obsessed with this book
