The Silk Roads: A New History of the World
by Peter Frankopan
Required reading for all politicians
This is a scholarly and well written history, from the perspective of the trading routes called the Silk Roads. it reminds us that the principles often cited by the protagonists from these countries and regions are really a diversion from the real issue of control of trade and commodities, once being silk, then opium and now oil. None of the parties, ancient and modern, are spared from the dispassionate criticism. It is a required analysis which more should read.
