Gilded Princess by Penelope Black

This book started out a little slow for me and I was confused at the characters of “who is who” for a bit. Once I got to chapter 3, everything started to come together. Maddie the FMC, is so sweet and innocence pours from her. She is smart and lonely with the loss of her father and her mother shipping her and her sister away she feels cut-off. But now she is summering in the City and for the first time in a while that means parties and friends. Her sister Mary seems distant, mean even, and her cousin Lainey is hidden away with her three boyfriends due to other dangers. So she is unsure of herself it seems, but in other ways she seems very sure. The guys that confused me at first: Matteo (her once boyfriend); Leo (Matteo’s twin brother); Dante (Matteo’s and Leo’s friend/cousin). These guys all want her and she wants them, however their Mafia lifestyle comes calling while catching her in the crosshairs. Once again I get fully invested by the end and don’t even see the cliff coming. Ugh...October, you are Killing me Penelope, but I loved it.
