The Book of M by Peng Shepherd
2.0

The concept behind this book was actually really cool and I really wanted to like it as I like the post-apocalyptic genre. This is the author's first book and I'll give her another shot on another book.

The ambition vs. the execution was just too much. I'm always looking for a Sci-Fi/Fantasy book that is a self-contained read that isn't part of a series, but this story line really would have been better served as a series vs. one book.

I think what I struggled with in rating this higher is that the character development and number of various current plot points seemed somewhat abbreviated for what would be needed for me to connect to them. I kept thinking "How did I get here?" and why is this strange thing happening (the "Statue of Liberty" mention about halfway, for instance) that I had to wait too long to understand.
