Don't Think, Dear: On Loving and Leaving Ballet
by Alice Robb
This book is almost impossible for me to rate and review. The writing sometimes left something to be desired, with quick switches from conversations to studies to summaries of other books. But, the content of this book hit so close to home. It discussed the sibling of my former teacher, eating disorders my friends and I suffered from, and ballet programs I attended. I want friends, therapists, boyfriends, basically anyone who knows me and is a non-dancer to read this so I can just say, "Look! This is why I am the way I am! It's not my fault!" This book truly allowed me to be introspective of my experience in the ballet world and its subsequent impact on my life then and now. It almost felt like the author was taking my thoughts straight from my brain. At times, I had to stop reading because it was too much, but I am excited that someone has finally put all my thoughts into words.
