Pretend You're Mine
by Lucy Score
I really liked this book. It had more depth than some of the other romance books I’ve read. There really was a story line and it wasn’t just a cheesy romance. I really like Lucy Scores books because they are longer than normal romance books and I think that gives enough room to make the story make sense instead of just having one conflict and then they make up and the story ends.
This book was interesting to me because there was a good portion of it that Luke was not in. While he was deployed for six months. I liked this section of the book because a lot of times an author will just do a time jump. But I liked Harpers character development in that part of the book. It was also nice to see her build a relationship with other people in the town. Instead of just saying she was “loved” in the town and showing how much she wanted to stay, she actually showed those parts.
I did feel like the end was a little rushed. We learned about Harper’s old foster dad basically in the last couple chapters. Then it only took like one chapter to close that conflict up and it never became a big issue. Idk how I feel about that part. I see how it’s necessary because there needs to be a part where Luke is home and is able to be there for Harper when she needs him. Because the last time he was deployed. But I just think it could have been introduced a couple chapters before.
When Luke kicked Harper out that was really brutal. I think when you make the main character do something like that it makes it hard for the reader to like him again. I kind of feel like we needed to see him apologize more for what he did or at least right after it happened try to make it right. I did kind of love the drama of him kicking her out but I didn’t really feel like it’s something his character would have done.
Overall I did enjoy reading this book and I liked the supporting characters as well, they were funny.
