I found this on the front page of the BorrowBox library app and the quote under it made me do a double-take—"My first time getting it in the butt was kind of weird" is not generally something you expect to see on the front page of a library app. The full synopsis intrigued me though, and after reading the sample and a few reviews on here I decided to borrow it.

I was expecting to be a little uncomfortable at times after a review mentioned that it gets quite graphic sexually, but I didn't find anything particularly graphic. It's matter-of-fact about various things, mostly in the column in the form of advice, but I didn't really consider it graphic—but then I'm about a decade older than the audience this was written for so that might have something to do with it.

I liked the columns and how they were spaced throughout the book. They did get a bit preachy/obvious the further in they went but again I'm 10 years older than the target audience, I imagine it could be really helpful for those it's meant for. It also felt a little unrealistic at times, particularly the amount of casual sex and experience/advice coming from someone of Jack's age, but maybe times have changed...

I spent a lot of this book feeling like I was watching Pretty Little Liars again, getting so frustrated with these teenage characters and the stupid decisions they make instead of just telling someone what's happening. I understand not wanting to go to the principal since he's made it clear he isn't interested in helping, and I understand not wanting to go to the police since there's not much they can do. But tell someone. Particularly tell the people who have been threatened that they're being threatened. I had to skim over parts because I was so frustrated with how Jack was handling the situation.

I suspected who it was pretty much from the start. In saying that, I didn't know for sure until closer to halfway through, so I got caught up in the "thriller" aspect of the story and felt like I couldn't put it down for the majority of it.
I was, however, disappointed with the reveal taking the "mentally unstable villain" route.

Overall, I liked the book but spent too much of it frustrated with the main characters' decisions in regard to "mystery" to say I loved it.
