The Granite Kingdom: A Cornish Journey by Tim Hannigan
informative
inspiring
reflective
fast-paced
5.0
Beautiful meditation on one of the UK's most enigmatic and problematic counties (although I shudder to use that term now, lest I anger some locals).
I ran out to buy this after hearing the author on a podcast and being really impressed with his take on history.
In the book, Hannigan takes us on a walk across space - as he traverses Cornwall on foot, zig-zagging from coast to coast - and time - as he charts the history unearthed by each stop on his journey.
I learned so much and changed my perspective on many things that I thought I knew about Cornwall. It makes me want to return and see it again with new eyes - it's a rare travel book that can do that.
Shout out to Shrew Books in Fowey where I was able to obtain a signed copy!
