Honeybee by Craig Silvey
5.0

Hard, lovely, painful and gentle. Silvey delves into the intricates of trust and identity, and the pain of complex relationships and trauma with a trademark minimalism that gives the characters room to breathe. Some of the events, especially near the end, where the people in Victoria's life go to great lengths to track her down and offer her opportunities felt a bit staged - that many people, one after the other, wouldn't necessarily put in that much effort to find someone they don't necessarily know that much about. This might be my own pessimism seeping through, however. Or it might be because we are seeing the interactions from Victoria's POV, so her self-doubt makes the relationships seem slightly less developed than they actually are.
