Chew on This: Everything You Don't Want to Know About Fast Food by Eric Schlosser

5.0

While this book covered many topics already covered in "Fast Food Nation", it has been a number of years since I last read it and I didn't realize how much I needed the reminder of the crap that is constantly put into our food.

Here are a few of the disturbing facts I learned/relearned during reading:
- Some cattle ranchers (primarily at the industrial style "farms") feed their cows dead cows mixed in with their feed.
- Chickens are often raised in conditions where they do not have enough space to even stand up.
- Conditions for chickens were "improved" recently by some chicken companies by requiring that each chicken be given 72 square inches of living space. That is less than the size of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.
-Processed food tastes like nothing. It only begins to have taste once natural and artificial flavors are added.
-Speaking of natural and artificial flavors; they are the exact same thing made a different way.

An eye-opening read.
