The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter
by Theodora Goss
“This is the ‘90s, as Mary pointed out. It’s time we developed new ways of writing for the new century. We are no longer in the age of Charles Dickens or George Eliot, after all. We are modern. And, of course, monstrous…”🖋️☕️🪽📖
This felt like the shadow hunter books but for adults. Mary is the eldest daughter representation I’ve always wanted in a fantasy novel, and Justine’s love of books and her sense of grappling with life will always be so relatable. 🥹🤍 The way that Theodora Goss handled the source materials for this book with such care and clear love is just so special to me. I love The Athena Club and their monstrous found family <3
