I was not sure about this one (working only from a
unreliable recommendation), but it kept me
intrigued despite being rather plodding for a really
long portion of the book. I think it was the very good
depth of characters the author used. And the
mysterious circumstances.
Finally, while not so much a climax in my mind, there
was a thrilling set of scenes with aliens (finally!) that
lifted the story up.
If I had one nit it would be how quickly everything
was resolved. Very satisfactorily I must say, but
too quick.
I will be interested in book #2 ("Free Space") to see
where that leads now.
Recommended, but be patient for the story to evolve
and just enjoy the interaction of the four main
characters.
