Rain of Gold by Victor Villaseñor

3.0

Reminded me a bit of [b:Running in the Family|5941|Running in the Family|Michael Ondaatje|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1388278808s/5941.jpg|796428], but my (nearly fifteen-years-dated) recollection is that I was more captivated by Ondaatje's writing than Villaseñor's writing, which is fine, but not something I'm longing to read more of. A dramatic, semi-fantastical family memoir that does a terrific job of transporting you in time and place. Picks up a bit once his parents start catching sight of each other. 3.5.
