進撃の巨人 8 [Shingeki no Kyojin 8] by Hajime Isayama

5.0

Another incredibly action-packed, morality-infused, twist-laden stunner of a volume! Dang, the massive moral conversation between Annie and Marlo here was just. So friggin’ deep. Marlo sees the evil of the Military Police––their selfishness and corruption, while Annie says yeah they’re evil––I am too. Doesn’t that just make us human? Making Marlo wonder if it’s not the people he needs to fix, but the system that’s built from those people. Can you dictate morality from the top? A super insightful montage of philosophical ideas. I just––sgjsgmdnb SO GOOD.

I also love the darkness in Eren’s eyes here. He couldn’t turn into a Titan to save his friends; his human feelings couldn’t believe
SpoilerAnnie really was an enemy
. He even was the only one of the trio who wanted to go back and save the people the Female Titan stomped through as they escaped through the tunnel. He’s the most human of the trio, but he’s being pushed to becoming inhuman so that he can save more people. And to know that’s how he got to where he is now… it’s tragic but incredibly real.
