Heart2Heart Anthology, Volume 2 by Leslie Copeland

3.0

4/5 Los Angeles (Sweet, if a bit too short)
3/5 Cincinnati (Sweet, but kinda dull, liked the prologue and then it just went downhill from there; starting on 5, and ending on barely a 2)
3/5 Oakland (Not going into slut shaming, and have nothing against a character being a
Spoilerprostitute, honestly, that bit gave the story it's backbone
but it was so hastily written, the characters deserved so so much better)
3/5 Cape Town (Sweet, but unfinished)
1.5/5 Boston rant:
SpoilerJust doesn't make sense. A group of friends that grew up together, all gay.. not that it can't happen, but statistically unlikely. After coming out or realising orientation it makes sense (adults tend to develop friendly relationships with like-minded individuals, so for LGBTQ+ makes sense to stick together, as allies are also part of it), but childhood friends? All of them? Basically I'm not even annoyed with the premise, but just by the lazy writing author opened up with. Probably author imagined something else, but it never made it to paper.. going forward in this story I'm really struggling with wish to just abandon it. I just have to say, you can't just jam together supposedly interesting characteristics and call it good writing: a deaf marine biologist, a 7th grade teacher who's really into family support and knows ASL, blah, blah bla. And that's not even all. Missing thoughts, plot holes, random galore (so much random that it turns sour and is no way comic or quirky - like knowing sign language, become an interpreter for another couple because you crush on the guy, and what was it? Coincidence, serendipity, fate? Or just once again, fantasy land (lazy) writing? - inventing stuff when you need it), and then you actually never understand when language is verbal and when signed - until it's revealed at the basically the end (we don't read books from the end for a reason!!).
I guess it's frustrating when you do facepalm before chapter 2 has barely started.
And then the funniest bit, a grade 7 teacher is more built than marine biologist who works with his hands all day?
I'm not even gonna start on the ending, but just meh, the whole thing with so many annoyances that warranted this rant.

2.5/5 Athens (I'm not an archaeologist, but pretty sure that's not how archeology and artifacts work, it felt lazy and superficial. This kind of subject matter requires a lot more research, plus this story need character development too. Overall meh)
3/5 Denver (I liked the low sex drive, it's hard to find books where it's actually talked about, I liked the inclusivity - Trans MC who's automatically accepted by the other MC, but the beginning of the story was flat, seemingly lazy writing)
4/5 Melbourne (have read this story more than once already, and I'm sure there's rose coloured glasses involved, but there we go)
3/5 San Francisco (sweet, but that's about it)
3/5 Scotland (mindless bit of harmless fun, but with not a lot of substance, but I think the most annoying thing was: a) Scotland is not a city, and b) it wasn't their beginning but vacation destination, goes against the grain of the rest of the book)
4/5 Washington (the only fault I can find with this story is that it's way too short)
3.5/5 New Orleans (just a bit too rushed, not even unfinished, but the whole story just doesn't come together perfectly)
3/5 Toronto (an ok story, I Iiked the slower pacing of the relationship, but the story itself was inconsistent, seemed like it lacked the beginning, then a huge jump in the middle and then an unlikely adventure, I think this kind of story would have benefited from being at least twice as long)
3.5/5 Boston (you must be a believer of love at first sight to believe in this story, and I'm not)
4/5 Baltimore (surprisingly good)
4/5 Atlanta (good amount of detail, nothing too rushed, but just a tiny bit too corny)
3/5 Forget Paris/Oh.. Canada (I guess I'm not too into these split stories, for the first volume of this anthology the beginning and end ruined it for me, this time it was sweet, but definitely bearable, so a win I guess)
