It's a very cute book. Slow paced which I liked very much especially since we are technically reading what is supposed to be the diary (journal?) of the main character. I must admit that I was a bit sad that the book wasn't actually an encyclopedia.

To be completely honest I didn't expect to enjoy reading this book as much as I did. It's a low stake fantasy with a main character that sometimes can be enerving but still manages to be endearing.

I think the reason most people don't like that book is because it's low stake, the conflicts are resolved rather rapidly for us since we are reading entries of the MC recounting the events that happened. So obviously she wouldn't dwell on it too much or make it glamorous. Also there is the matter of "unoriginal" trope, and I am saying that with all the kindness I have. It is not a flaw in itself.

For what this book is, a cozy fantasy with low stake about an academic doing research it is rather good.
I can understand that the book format (so of a journal kind of) would be a deal breaker for some, but it is one the rare book written in the 1st person narration that didn't make me want to throw myself of a roof immediately. It was actually a really enjoyable writing style.

One thing I could have against it is the lack of actual academic writing? This is a journal that the MC is using for her research however we have very few of in depth theory or world building about the faeries.
