The beginning was great but it plateaued shortly after and the ending was a bit of a let down. It had the fun, dark elements to it but I also found both MCs to be pretty sweet and relatively likeable.
It seemed like this book couldn’t go a page without Leo mentioning the woman he loved that died, Mariana. He’s constantly thinking about her, comparing Abigale to her and even says she reminds him of her. Basically his entire life and personality revolved around Mariana. He had a lot of trauma and a lot he needed to work through but it’s just not my thing to read about when it’s a romance about another woman.
The thing is, this can be done well. It actually is in this very book with Abigale’s past. She also had someone from the past she loved and had something horrible happen to her as well. It’s a part of who she is and he had effected her to become who she is today but, it doesn’t overwhelm the story.
This book could have been great if it focused more on just Leo and Abigale with their past having a smaller part. It didn’t give enough time to focus on them as a couple and left it very one dimensional. Still was a fun read.
