The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

5.0

Wow. I am left speechless with this novel. It was so well written and told a powerful story of what it was like living during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. This story focuses on Elsa Wolcott, who after living with her unbearable family meets Rafe Martinelli, who is unlike any man she has met before. When the unexpected occurs their only choice is to get married. As years go by marriage isn’t all it’s talked up to be. And during the drought in the Great Plains Rafe and Elsa’s relationship gets even weaker. The story follows Elsa as she struggles to fight for the land or to go west in search of a better life for her family. I loved Elsa. My heart broke for her and I rejoiced for her. One thing I love about Kristin Hannah’s books is her characters always have wonderful development. I loved reading how timid Elsa became strong-willed and powerful once she acknowledged her own self worth. I enjoyed reading Elsa and her family’s journey throughout the story! If you love a story of found family and finding yourself as well as history and romance you will love this book!! There were a couple of moments where they pace dropped for me but other times it picked right back up! Loved this book!
