Beautyland
by Marie-Helene Bertino
An absolute triumph. This book accomplishes what every sci fi novel should seek to: use an other-worldly element to expose deeper, nuanced truths of the human experience. The way Bertino dances with these softer, more veiled elements of being a human creates a profound and undeniably charming read. Fundamentally, Bertino fuses a genre piece with great literature, drawing emotions and experiences out of you that you had either long forgotten or glossed over while managing the sensory overload that is existence. Can't recommend this highly enough, especially for anyone that has struggled at any point to work their way in from the outside.
