A Suitable Vengeance by Elizabeth George
4.0

George treats us to a chronological rewind in A Suitable Vengence, the fourth book in one of the best murder mystery series in literature. She serves up overflowing helpings of prickly death, gripping themes, and razor-sharp twists, but in this offering George writing of the past highlights her authenticity with emotion.

Love and longing between fictional characters rarely comes across as believable, only the best authors can execute the challenge, so it's astonishing that a writer wildly skilled at composing violent thrills also develops believable romance.

If you enjoy this series, be warned, this book will solidify an addiction. After building characters real enough to touch, George takes risks as a writer giving us a prequel, but one that pays off. You'll want to immediately grab the next book in series, this is why we read, highly satisfying.
