I think I met this book at the wrong time, I just didn’t love this as much as I expected I would!
Don’t get me wrong, I can see why people adore this book. I did really liked the romance between Eva and Shane, they were totally believable and sparky and great. And I liked the flickering between the past and the future, though I was disappointed that didn’t carry through the whole book. I thought Eva’s representation as a woman with an invisible disability was awesome, and showing a positive view of recovery from addiction and male vulnerability was great.
But it felt like we didn’t get enough of a beat with what happened to Ty, which deserved way more space in the novel than it was given. The steamy scenes were also a bit so-so for me and the packaging around it all was just not clicking. I was frustrated especially at the end by so much of the plot happening literally in the epilogue. It was like “7 Days In June and then 6 weeks in the epilogue.” I almost wished they’d left it more open at the end of the book and only hinted at what happened in the epilogue, rather than having that entire second arc happen in a single tacked-on chapter.
Overall, I did enjoy this and the romance at the heart of it all was genuinely gorgeous and believable, but a few key things really brought it down for me. Would definitely recommend to romance readers (after checking the content warnings, some of this is a bit heavy).
