I've always been a sucker for a good survival story, and this one delivers.
Jess Cooper is a teenager recovering from a serious car accident that left her with limited mobility in one leg. She comes to stay with her off-the-grid father, and without giving away any spoilers, is left to face the wilderness on her own.
The story is told in an interleaved collection of "before" (primarily flashbacks of events that led her into this predicament) and "after" chapters. Half-way through the book, the tone changes, with before and after melding together into one. This was well-done and very engaging. Overall, I grew to really care for Jess and root for her and her dog to make it.
