Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories by Kelly Ripa
5.0
Ok I know I’ve said before that I prefer a memoir to a book of essays, but I loved Kelly Ripa’s book so much. She actually starts off by talking about why she chose to write essays instead of a memoir – she thought it would be easier, but she realizes she was definitely wrong.
I listened to this as an audiobook and once again I would highly recommend it. Kelly Ripa is so funny. The tone of her voice is just unbeatable. And her husband, Mark Consuelos, aka Hiram Lodge from Riverdale, interjects sometime with his own comments and both Kelly, and the two of them together, made me laugh out loud multiple times. In fact, now that Mark is Kelly’s cohost on Live, I might have to start tuning in again just for their married banter.
Kelly often uses a funny story to kick off a chapter where she then dives into something more serious about her life. I thought this was a good way to tell some of her stories. I loved learning more about her career and her time with Regis on Live with Regis and Kelly. Even though I know some of what she said about him was considered controversial, I thought she was exteremely gracious about setting the record straight. I loved hearing her talk about her struggles to balance time between work and motherhood – which is so relatable – and I really enjoyed the final chapters where she talks a little more about her kids. I love her self-depricating humour and her stories about all the times she got stuck in an awkward and/or embarrassing situation.
Highly recommend this audiobook! I couldn’t stop listening.
