I grew up watching this movie and hadn’t realized until recently that it was based on a book. If it’s possible I liked the book more than the movie (and I loved the movie). I think they changed the movie in important ways I wish they hadn’t. I think Ruth not being in love with Buddy actually added to the story and it made more sense to me. I thought all the characters and changes in perspective were fun and made it a quick and enjoyable read.
