3.5 stars. This was fun and enjoyable. It's not a great romance novel and it's not a great murder mystery, but it does well enough at both. The romance is well done, I can feel some chemistry and I like both of the characters enough to think the other deserves them. It all happens a bit fast, but that's not unusual. The mystery is...not very mysterious, but it was fun to read about nonetheless. It's a whodunit that starts in the second half of the book and is pretty obvious about the culprit, but is still cozy and doesn't really seem to disrupt the romance plot at all? Even though someone was murdered like, three rooms away and the corpse is still in there? Whatever, it was fun.

A couple of petty grievances: I'd like more people in historical romance novels to appreciate the difficulty of "women's work." (That is one thing that [b:The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics|42117380|The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Feminine Pursuits, #1)|Olivia Waite|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1553279364l/42117380._SY75_.jpg|65707735] really had going for it.) I don't need my tomboy character to completely eschew all feminine pursuits in order to think she's "manly." If I had to hear Pat attribute one more of her personality traits to being raised with four brothers, I swear I would...do absolutely nothing and just keep reading, but like, a little saltier about it.
