When tragedy strikes, Red is right there to support his best friend, Journey. While farm animals and rooster wake-up calls weren't really part of his plan, he couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else.

I love the easy friendship between Journey and Red. I love how it wasn't even a question for Red to support Journey through the process of taking over his late uncle's farm. How he made an effort to fit Journey into his life at home, now that Journey seems to be home for good.

I also love how real Journey's, well, journey seemed. He's spent a large part of his life separated from Red for his job, but now that they're together all the time, he's realized that his love for his best friend may have had a deeper meaning. And thankfully, Red is patient while Journey figures it out. Even if he's been in love with Journey for nearly two decades.

As their relationship transforms from friends to lovers, they communicate every step of the way. They support each other unconditionally, and care for each other very deeply. It was a beautiful story to read, and I'm so glad quiet, shy Red got his happily ever after.
