Dang, this short story is only 30 pages, but it packs a major gut punch. It tells the story of Solomon Epstein and his invention of the Epstein drive which makes the events in the main series possible. We get to see him fall in love with his wife and invent something revolutionary while knowing that he won't actually be there to see everything that comes of it.

Three Things:
1. I love Solomon's relationship with his wife so much. It feels completely developed and realistic. And, getting to seem them work though a disagreement told us so much in just one exchange.
2. I really like all the little tidbits we got about his friends. It make the story feel fuller and richer even in so few pages.
3. "Solomon relaxes, and the expanse folds itself around him like a lover." *cue tears*

While I still don't think these short stories are required reading, this is easily my favorite one. And, I think fans of the series will really enjoy it.
