When Aidan Became A Brother by Kyle Lukoff

4.0

This beautiful picture book focuses both on Aidan's experience growing up as a young transgender boy and his preparations for a new baby sibling. It does a lovely job of showing that girls can love science and dislike dresses, but that that is different than being a transgender boy. The book voices Aidan's frustrations at being mis-gendered and labels his parents actions treating him like a girl as a mistake. They try to avoid these same mistakes when preparing for Aidan's new sibling, being loving and accepting, choosing gender neutral clothing and wall colors, choosing a gender neutral name, and never stating the new baby's gender. Children will relate to this book if they are transgender, know someone who is, or have experienced preparing for a new sibling of any gender.
