The Lover by Marguerite Duras
3.0

Lordy, how my heart broke multiple times over the course of a hundred pages. Duras' novel collects the detail of an illicit affair that serves as a fictionalized remembrance of the author's own real life experiences and a subtle jab at colonialism in the region of Indochina. The work itself is beautifully told and textured — the only real hinderance for me was the more abstract, rambly parts that take the story on awkward detours.
