Glow of the Everflame by Penn Cole
4.0
While it was an overall enjoyable continuation of the series, it definitely felt weaker in terms of storytelling in comparison to [b:Spark of the Everflame|123471760|Spark of the Everflame (Kindred's Curse, #1)|Penn Cole|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1684550094l/123471760._SY75_.jpg|144862322]. You could feel the book was about 200 pages longer and I am not sure if they were used to their fullest. Some moments and internal struggles of Diem's felt repetitive, while other plot developments felt a bit underdeveloped.
Furthermore, Diem did not feel like her badass self from book one for a while, jumping from one conclusion to another and not trusting anyone. I expected to learn more about Diem's backstory, as well as to see the world being more developed by now, but keeping in mind this is plotted for 4 books, maybe we'll see more in book 3.
I also am totally not a fan of the "love triangle". It's obvious what Diem's heart has chosen, it's obvious her relationship with Henri in any capacity is, well, over, yet we keep having to h-e-a-r about his sorry ass. We could've left him behind by now. Guess that's happening in book 3.
Overall, it was not a bad continuation and I definitely wanna continue with the story, but it could've been either a little shorter or with a bit faster pacing/more information sprinkled throughout.
We are almost as blind as we were by the end of book 1. And Diem's refusal to SPEAK to people isn't helping.
