El Deafo by Cece Bell
5.0
As someone who has been deaf since birth I was really amazed by this book, the struggles that come with being deaf are laid out perfectly in a way that anyone (hearing or not) would be able to imagine. I really wish I had this book when I was a young child navigating the hearing world I was placed in (very similar to Cece, had hearing aids, didnt know anyone else like me, and I didnt sign either) it would have absolutely helped me
feel ‘normal’ like my friends and family and have enabled me to fall in love with my deaf identity a little sooner than my late teens or so (i’m 24 now). If i could get everyone to read one book this would be it, its a perfect quick and engaging read that’ll help one become deaf aware!
10000/10 recommend!
