Interview with the Vampire
by Anne Rice
I'm surprised how much I liked this novel as a whole.
I disliked the first half of the novel: Lestat was the worst, I couldn't believe that they turned a child into a vampire, and Louis overthought everything, but didn't do anything about the things he was overthinking (fair enough). However, the second half of this novel addressed all of my dislikes and made me sympathize with the characters, even Lestat. For some reason, I expected a more bittersweet ending when it was just bitter with a bit of humour. This did make me like the novel more though. Also, the writing was wonderfully decadent.
If you do end up reading this and you, like me, hate the beginning, I would recommend trudging through it to get at the heart of this dark novel. Recommended for those who love vampires and an existential crisis.
P.S. This is an LGBTQ+ novel and I can't be convinced otherwise.
