ronnieb 's review for:
The Girl with a Clock for a Heart
by Peter Swanson
If I had to choose two words to describe this book it would be boring and cringy. This was Peter Swanson's first attempt at the mystery/thriller genre and while this was a mystery it was not very thrilling which I think he has leaned into more with his later books. If I had to give a recommendation it would be to skip this novel and just go for the ones he has published after.
As for some of my actual criticisms of the novel; first, it was so boring. I think it was 50 - 50 in the actual story being boring and the audiobook narrator not making the story more exciting. Second, it was cringy. Mostly the sex scenes which there are at least two that stick out in my mind but there could be more. Third, it was confusing. There are multiple characters who go by multiple aliases in the book and overall I just think there were too many characters in the book and I caught myself losing track at times. There are also two timelines and I would occasionally find myself forgetting or being confused about which timeline we were currently in.
