"How does one shake off desire? To give it a voice is to sow a seed, knowing that somehow, someway, it will grow. It is to admit and submit to something which is on the outer limit of your understanding."

Listened as an audiobook read by the author. This book is as good as everyone who recommended it to me says. Many moments throughout absolutely flawed me, and asked me to take a breath and moment of reflection. The writing style is lyrical and so beautiful, captivating and breathtaking. It's a vulnerable reflection on life, desire, freedom, time, safety, fate and connection, shared through the perspective of a young Black man living in Britain, and shared in second person throughout. It's intimate, detailed, and the reflections around the nature of freedom and connection - romantic and otherwise - were particularly moving upon this encounter. There's actually so much to unpack in this glorious debut. Very excited to revisit this text again and again.
