A beautiful, interesting, slightly corny wrap to the “Amulet” series, “Waverider” was gorgeous in illustrations as well as the chosen plot ending.
Though the multiverse/multi-timeline trope was a tad bit confusing and a bit of a let down to due the exponential usage of this trope in recent media, commonly being use as a deus ex machina solution. What I did adore is the idea of Ikol being a program perceived by other universes as magic. Additionally I was thrilled by the arch Trellis and the Elves arch, especially coupled with the loss, war, growth from hardship and the grim truth that the war against corruption by Ikol was far from finished and required unification across planets, galaxies and time itself to overcome.
Being able to bring back varying perspectives from all the characters to show that there was no “right-way” to fight this battle led to the beautiful conclusion that unification, making an effort and learning from both the past, present and those around us is all that can be done when overcoming an opposition this large, a lesson that can be applied to more than just this amazing graphic novel. Finally getting the chance to see this series come to an end as a large part of my middle school childhood and the reason that I found my love of graphic novels and continued to delve further into the world of reading . I am a thankful to Kazu Kibuishi and his team for all the joy, encouragement and wonder that they brought to I and other Amulet fans’ lives. I can only imagine how immense this undertaking was and want them to know that me getting to wait all 10 years for this was more than worth it.
