by Ali Hazelwood
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
No
Loveable characters:
Complicated
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Complicated
I wanted to like this, but I finished up the book feeling frustrated at the characters and not in a good way.
The miscommunication trope can be fun when done right but I just found it annoying in this book. I don’t hate the fake dating trope either but the reasons for this one were so flimsy I couldn’t look past it. I didn’t really connect to any of the characters which is wild because, like Olive, I’m a woman in STEM.
Don’t even get me started on the huge muscly man and tiny feminine girl trope - I don’t think I could get through 2 sentences of this book without being reminded of their size difference.
It was a fast read and I can see why people would enjoy it as a fun, easy story but it just wasn’t for me.
