In the Field of Grace
by Tessa Afshar
Tessa Afshar is a remarkable author who brings the Bible to life with her vivid storytelling. This is yet another gem among the many books she's written. When you read these novels it's amazing to stop and consider God's Hand at work. Ruth was a Moabite, her people sworn enemies of Israel. Yet Ruth's unwavering love for her mother-in-law led her to follow Naomi to Israel after the death of Ruth's husband (Naomi's son). Shunned by most of the people she encountered, Ruth gleaned wheat for scraps in the fields of wealthy-landowner Boaz to provide for herself and Naomi.
This is both a romantic read and a testament of faith woven around the great-great grandparents of King David. There are so many characters to care about, both historical and fictional. In addition to her relationship with Boaz, I loved seeing Ruth's friendship develop with Dinah, an Israeli woman who at first displays nothing but animosity.
A thoroughly inspiring read, In the Field of Grace leaves the reader with the assurance that despite what difficulties we may face in life, God is always with us if we only open our hearts and allow Him to work in our lives.
