I’m experiencing… catharsis? I finished the main series (to be fair, I still need to read The Wind Through the Keyhole, since I read the series in publication order). Do I like the fact that a lot of the big actions started taking place right in the middle of the book? Not 100%, but it wasn’t terrible. I liked the ending, but I don’t necessarily like that it ended and that, as the narrator put it, I don’t have to know everything and not every story has a happily ever after. I’m just sad it’s over. Otherwise, it’s not my favorite of the series.

SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I wasn’t too keen on the rushed plots in this book, compared to previous books in the series. The deaths of some of the main ka-tet members reminded me of why Book 1: The Gunslinger was such a slog. What I liked most about the series were the interactions between the members of the ka-tet, so as soon as Eddie died, the feeling changed. After Jake died, it felt even greater. Other than that, the interaction with Dandelo picked up, and it felt like we were back on track, but then reaching the tower itself I may have felt catharsis by this point. In any case, at least Eddie and Jake are brothers in the new reality, but it sucks that Suse has to go through that. Meanwhile Roland going through this the cycle again and again… it’s good to know things will be different for him with items such as the Horn of Eld. With the movie possibly being another cycle, I just wish we could get other iterations (that are actually good). Who knows?
