Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

"It was too good a puzzle" (chapter 5)

This book caught me on from the very first pages, and then it just kept on delivering, page after page. The overarching theme at some point made me think of the fall of the Roman Empire. The more personal, subjective themes are credible, emphatic and at certain places thought provoking.

You can find philosophy, social sciences and history (albeit fictional history), you can find action and some truths.

"People often think they would have made the noblest choice, but when they find themselves actually in such a situation, they discover matters aren't quite so simple." (chapter 9)
