2nd read: Okay, the ending was cleared up a little for me, but EVERYTHING ELSE was just so weak. Raphael was at his worst. Elena was just herself and that's fine?? But I wanted MORE. More of everything. I hate how empty this book felt of anything useful besides set up for the later books (which, I will note, have not been paid off fully...I need something conclusive about Lijuan. Please. I'm begging you.)
1st read: Did they just blow up Beijing? Is Lijuan dead? This ending was so unclear. However, biggest props to Elena for literally killing her demons. I'm proud of her. I'm not sure I liked the build up to it, but the execution (pun intended) was flawless. I think I'm going to keep reading this series, and continue to hope it gets better. There's so much good that could just use a little bit more nurturing to become the awesome it has the potential to be.
