The Cold Dish: A Longmire Mystery
by Craig Johnson
This is the first in the Walt Longmire mystery series and I really enjoyed it. Although I love the TV series, the book is much better. There is more humor and more depth to the characters. The evocations of the Wyoming landscape are very powerful. There is also a lot of incredible action. I think the relationship between Walt and his best friend, Henry Standing Bear is terrific. The window into Cheyenne culture (albeit from Walt's perspective) provides a welcome relief from the usual crappy Indian stereotypes we usually see in American pop culture. I'm now reading the next in the series which picks up right where The Cold Dish left off and it's even better.
