I enjoyed the marriage of convenience trope because it is just outlandish enough to be interesting without being entirely unrealistic. Luca and Saoirse try to maintain boundaries but it becomes complicated because they are constantly acting on their attraction to one another. The family struggles on Saoirse’s side were interesting and brought in some great side characters. Her relationship with her SIL was one of my favorites.

I liked the push and pull between Saoirse and Luca, specifically that he gave her some stability. She previously had a hard time staying in one place and he helped her find a place in her life and job that fit her desires for change while allowing her to become more grounded. She encouraged him to pursue his hobbies and understand that work is just work and doesn’t have to be his whole life.

I didn’t feel the loving connection between Luca and Saoirse until later in the book and it felt a lot like lust for a good portion. I’m not a huge fan of the “third act breakup” plot but the author did a good job of wrapping it up quickly. Overall, I enjoyed this read and I would recommend it to others. I look forward to more books from Julia Wolf.
