Did Ye Hear Mammy Died?: A Memoir by Séamas O'Reilly

emotional funny reflective sad medium-paced

3.0

This audiobook read by the author was very touching and heartfelt. Irish humor is expertly used to discuss difficult topics, such as the death of the author’s mom when he was five.  The author describes the memoir as really a thank you letter to his father for taking care of him and his 11 siblings after his mother passed away, and this is very evident. I also thought it was interesting learning about the time of the troubles in Northern Ireland from a child’s perspective. While it did take me a while to get into this book and it is quite sad, it did make me reflect upon my own family and the connections I share with them.
