Well the ending got better.

Elspeth was an annoying child, she acted brave but when it came down to it she was a fragile damsel in distress. She didn't know how to fight, she ALWAYS got caught eavesdropping, and she was very judgmental. A lot of the book was me wanting to punch her.

I kept reading only because I loved Nightmare in her head, he was who I was rooting for. I loved that he spoke in riddles and knew that hard decisions needed to be made. He protected Elspeth, even when she was an ungrateful child afterwards.

I don’t like a weak FMC, i prefer them strong& independent. I guess that's why I didn’t care for her, because whenever trouble was a foot she needed someone’s help. Nightmare's help I loved but I hated when she would judge him for the choices he made when she begged for his help.

I did love the magic system in this book but I did find myself confused on who had a Providence card and whom didn't. Also I thought there was told of only 12 cards but seemed like everyone had a card and I just kept getting confused about that as well.

I’m happy the Monster is out& she’s asleep. Wondering how book 2 will carry-on
