A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow
4.0

Rating: 3.5 stars

Such a refreshing clash of contemporary setting and fantastical powers, all within an extremely tense environment for an entire race of people. The connections to the siren prejudice, slander of reputation to justify ones guilt, and overall the fear of being “next” was heartbreaking to read, and yet within more modern bounds, is all too real for so many. The bond between Tavia and Effie was a special one and a highlight of the book for me! I also loved the authors writing style— most of my reading thread was quotes!

I gave 3.5 stars for a few reasons, but mostly (and maybe it’s just me wanting a break from YA but) I found parts of this book to be a bit boring, despite the interesting themes.
