The Dating Plan
by Sara Desai
3.5 stars
I liked this book (I mean fake dating trope with enemies to lovers vibes?!? Sign me up!!!), but I wanted to be obsessed with it and just wasn’t. At times it was fast-paced, steamy, and banter-filled, but the banter (and even the steam) often fell flat or felt clunky. Daisy, the main character, was a semi-relatable, type-A introvert but there was a heavy reliance on her being “different and weird” to the extent that it felt overdone (too much marvel for my taste). At the same time, the love interest was a bad boy (y’all know we love a bad boy), and there were intriguing mentions of mysterious past incidents throughout to keep you on your toes until the end (see TW below). The family dynamics were a trip, but be prepared to encounter a lot of side characters (sometimes felt like too many). I loved learning more about Indian culture, and ultimately, this was still a fun read with a satisfying ending (no loose ends), which bumped my rating up from 3 to 3.5. I’d say this is worth a read if you ~really~ enjoy fake dating romances and want something with a tidy ending.
TW: domestic abuse, abandonment, anxiety, panic attacks, accident
