This is a memoir of Canadian writer Howard Norman when he was a fledgling writer. Some of the tales are expected like that he bird watches and likes bird art (he wrote a book about an artist that paints birds). He attended Woodstock and has friends that were artists, musicians and actors including one that was a friend of Peter Lorre. The funniest part of the book is a rather manic period in his life where he keeps getting calls from a long lost brother asking him to take him across the Canadian border to avoid prison, and at the same time he keeps seeing a guy in his Vermont town with a Confederate uniform on. He is not sure if he is disassociating or if the guy actually exists. He eventually is encouraged to confront the person and finds out they are involved in reinactments. If you like Spike Jonz movies you would probably like this writer.
