Refusing Compulsory Sexuality: A Black Asexual Lens on Our Sex-Obsessed Culture by Sherronda J. Brown

challenging hopeful informative inspiring slow-paced

5.0

I loved this book! Not only did it make me feel incredibly seen in the facets of my queerness, it also was so deeply researched and had so much information spanning various aspects of queerness, race, literature, and history. It was fascinating to look at the ways white supremacy affects every lens with which our society exists whether that be sex, gender, race, or the way all of those things intersect. Sherronda’s writing is wonderful and accessible, which can be difficult with a book contingent on so much theory! I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about Asexuality and anyone who is interested in the complexities of race’s impact on compulsory sexuality and gender.
