The Beekeeper by S.M. Shade
5.0
Wow wow WOW. This book was amazing, so different to anything I have read, and totally not what I expected.
This has some fairly heavy tropes/content/triggers, so please read those before the deep dive. The FMC and MMC are not your typical characters, both morally grey, and the twists in this book, OMFG. Calli (Calliope) rents the cabin on the property of a reclusive artist, Arlow. Calli is running from a past that is responsible for an anxiety that constantly has her looking over her shoulder. Arlow quietly observes from afar, not wanting to get close, as he too as a life shrouded in secrets that even the small community they both live in, don't know.
The lure of nature, and the feeling the Calli has being close to Arlow finds their relationship taking an unplanned course, but where there is also an ever present danger that threatens to rock their foundations. It is a slow burn, but when the honey heats up, it is damn good. Need those bees to flutter those wings outside, so I could cool down (because, yes I am a Queen.....lol). There is amazing side characters that add depth to this very story, and truly made this book shine. I don't ever give spoilers, and I don't plan on it now, but, if you want something different, you love dark romance with a huge helping of mystery/suspense and twists that have you on the edge of your seat, than THIS SHOULD BE YOUR NEXT READ. Loved this book.
