Okay…. I have a lot of thoughts!!!!
I spent a lot of time reading this book, the final book in A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder series, confused, not really enjoying the book and uncomfy with the atmosphere created.
I loved the first few books in the series, and absolutely loved Pip as a young adult character. Pip was very likeable in the first few books - she was curious, intelligent and fun, and the story had a light-hearted, whodunnit storyline. However, in this final book, Pip and the story was much darker, with Pip making a key decision in the middle of the book which was morally questionable and it changed the feeling for me. I can understand Pip is very much struggling after all she has been through, but her characterisation changed for me and I just felt so sad for her. I usually don’t mind reading about unhinged women, but we had grown to love sweet, kind Pip 💔
There wasn’t really explanation as to why Pip wasn’t seeking help and support?
I also very much felt for Ravi. I was confused by his decision to go along with Pip’s decision when she is maybe not in her right frame of mind, and the situation he is put in mirrors what he has already been through and felt quite unfair. Ravi and her friends just wanted Pip to be okay and believed they were doing the right thing 😢
I am not sure whether I feel satisfied with the ending for Pip and Ravi or whether the story could have maybe taken a different ending which wouldn’t have felt so abrupt or final.
With all that being said, I do really enjoy Holly Jackson’s writing, pacing and structure of her novels and will continue reading her books - I think it was just the content of this final book that maybe wasn’t quite for me. I do think Holly Jackson has created a wonderful atmosphere with Pip and in Little Kilton and I overall did enjoy the series. I don’t think this final book felt like a young adult book, with the themes explored. Going to need 7-10 business days to process this one 😭
I am going to give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️, and a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ series overall for me. Another series finished!
